HUBUNGAN CITRA TUBUH DENGAN KEPERCAYAAN DIRI PADA REMAJA SMP NEGERI 18 KOTA PADANG

Abstract

The transition period in adolescence is marked by physical changes, these changes have an impact on the attitudes and behavior of adolescents, one of the consequences of these changesis a loss of self-confidence. Teenagers who were initially very confident in themselves, become less confident, afraid of failure because their physical endurance decreases and constant criticism comes from those closest to them. The impact of someone who does not have self-confidence is experiencing failure, not having self-confidence, not wanting to try to be better. This research aims to determine the relationship between body image and selfconfidence in teenagers at SMP Negeri 18 Padang City in 2023. The type of research is quantitative and analytical description design with a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted from March to August 2023. The population was teenagers in grades VIII-IX at SMP Negeri 18 Padang City, the sample was 87 teenagers. The data analysis technique used is univariate with frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Squere test. The results of this study show that the proportion of adolescents who have low and medium self-confidence is mostly (85.1%) compared to less than half (37.9%) with low body image. Based on statistical tests, it was found that p-value = 0.004 (p≤0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between body image and self- confidence. Through the Principal of SMP Negeri 18 Padang City, the results of this research can be used as a consideration for holding a counseling program for BK Teachers in increasing teenagers' self-confidence through acceptance of physical condition (Body Image) and the Principal can work together with the local Health Center to provide education on the importance of maintaining self-confidence in adolescent growth and development.
