Abstract
Decreasing in body temperature is common in postoperative patients with general anesthesia, and this can lead to various complications in postoperative patients. Therefor, exploring the risk factors contributed to it is needed. This research was aimed to explore factors contributed to body temperature reduction in postoperative patients with general anesthesia. This was cross sectional study that conducted at Tk. III Reksodiwiryo Padang Hospital, where 67 patients underwent general anesthesia were participated selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using patients medical documentation. Statistic of independent t test and anova was used to analyze the factors. The results showed that the mean of decreasing in body temperature was 1,27 oC, more than half of the patients were in the adult age group (67,5%), were female ( 61,2 %), had normal BMI (55,2 %), had operation in abdomen or thorax area ( 59,7 %), and most of the duration of the operation was moderate category ( 76,1%). There were no significant relationships between age factors (p value = 0,105), gender ( p value = 0,703), and MBI ( p value = 0,269) with decreasing in body temperature , but there were significant relationships between duration of the operation ( p value = 0,000) and type of operation ( p value = 0.037) with decreasing in body temperarure. This study provides recommendations to use this study results as an consideration in the care of patients undergoing surgery with general anesthesia in order to prevent complications in postoperative patients such as hypothermia.
