Abstract

Stunting is a chronic condition that describes the long-term malnutrition characterized by PB/U or TB/U with boundary z - score of less than -2 SD. This study aims to know relationship between LBW with stunting in children age 12-23 months in West Sumatra. The research was conducted from October 2016 until April 2017 used case control design. Data source in this study come from Riskesdas 2013. The sample in this study consisted of 62 case and 62 controls. The result shows are the variables associated to stunting are low birth weight OR=4.56 (p= 0.001 95% CI (1.85-11.21), Exclusive Breastfeeding OR = 3.58 ( p = 0.0001 95% CI 1.70-7.54), Infectious Diseases OR = 2.06 (p=0.04 95% CI 1:00 to 4:22 ), Completeness Immunization OR = 3.43 (p = 0.04 95% CI 1:58 to 7:45), Mothers job OR=2.33 (p=0.027 95% CI 1.10-4.92), and maternal education OR = 3.62 p = 0.001 95% CI 1.71-7.64). Variables obtained in interaction tests that have the effect of modification is Exclusive breastfeeding. At the confounding test obtained the confounder variables are Exclusive breastfeeding % (Δ) OR=57.56, Infectious Disease% (Δ) OR=12.60, completeness Immunization% (Δ) OR=26.74, family economic status% (Δ) OR = 10.47 and Maternal Education.% (Δ) OR=11.63. At potential impact fraction test that % AFP in children who were not given exclusive breastfeeding is 60%, with infectious disease is 43%, incomplete immunization is 42%, families with quintile possessions index medium to the bottom is 30%, and the mother's education from high-school down is 62%. In preventing of stunting the necessary efforts to improve nutrition since mothers pregnant.
